Things that are Good for Nothing
Matthew 5:11-16

In Matt. 5:11-16 the Lord Jesus Christ mentioned about the importance of salt and the light.
- Salt is very important in our daily life.
o It is used as preservatives
o It is used to give savor.
- The light is very important in our daily life.
o It drives away darkness. It’s hard to live in place full of darkness.

The Lord Jesus Christ said that Christians is like unto the salt of this earth that gives savor to God. Christian is like unto the lights of this world that shines to those that are in darkness.

I. Living in this world without Christ and without assurance of going to heaven when you die is good for nothing.
• Luke 12:16-21 – Wealth is nothing in the sight of God. Wealth can not bring you to heaven . Like the rich man in Luke 12, He was focused on the temporal things and he died unprepared.
• Luke 16:19-31 – The story of the rich man and Lazarus the beggar. The rich man lived in a riotous living and the time came that the beggar and the rich man died.
Lazarus was carried by the angels into the place where Abraham was and the sad thing for the rich was that he left up his eyes in hell being in torments. Death will come to all of us and we need to be prepared. You need to repent for your sins and receive Christ as your personal savior. Only Jesus can bring you to heaven.

II. Worshiping God with out a desire to grow in your Christian Life is good for nothing.
• When you come to church, come to church with a desire to grow, give your best every time you worship God, bring your Bible, bring your offering for God and give your heart and mind as you listen to the preaching of the Word of God.

III. Praying without believing is good for nothing.
• When you pray believe that God will answer your prayer. In Matthew 21:22 says “And whatsoever things you shall ask in prayer believing and you shall have them”. Jeremiah 33:3 the Lord said “ Call unto me and I will answer thee and will show thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not.” When you pray you have to believe that God is able to answer your prayer, but let us be reminded also that God will only answer the prayers of those person that is obedient to Hid Word.

IV. Serving the Lord without joy and sincerity is good for nothing. Colossians 3:17, 23, & 24.
• Doing something in the work of God which is not from the heart and without joy is good for nothing. Do the work of God not to please men but to please God. If you are doing something just to please people one day you get tired of doing it and quit serving God especially when people will not appreciate what you are doing.

SERVE THE LORD WITH GLADNESS AND HE WILL BLESS YOU AND WILL GIVE YOU REWARDS FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE FOR HIM.
